Birthday visitors!
On Tuesday, my little boy will be 5 years old! So hard for me to believe. Grandma and Papa came to visit and celebrate AJ's birthday a little early. AJ had a terrific birthday celebration, and was excited about his gifts. After grandma and Papa left, I asked him what he liked best about their visit. He said he liked playing basketball with grandma on his team against Papa and he liked that they stayed to watch his football game on Saturday. AJ was so excited to show them how well he can play. We have had so many visitors in the past two months, AJ isn't going to know what to do over the next five weeks until our next visitor is to arrive. AJ only went to daycare one day in the past 4 weeks. His friends have missed him, but AJ has sure had a good time!
1st trip without mom and dad
AJ had a long, wonderful visit from his grandma Kay. She came to our house for a week, took AJ back to Kansas for a week, then came back for one more week to stay with us. AJ was so thrilled to have three straight weeks to play with grandma Kay. While in KS, AJ enjoyed lots of play time with his cousin Kayleigh and some baby kittens at grandma Kay's house. AJ tried to talk mom and dad into bringing a favorite of the kittens home, but we quickly nixed that idea. I discovered that a week apart from AJ was much harder on me than it was on him. He did seem pretty excited to see us after his time away though. Tande has some cute pics of AJ and Kayleigh on her site which can be accessed through a link on this site.
More visitors!
We had a terrific visit from Dave's aunt and uncle, Linda and Doug. AJ was once again thrilled with the extra attention he was able to get. Poor Linda was suckered into reading to AJ within the first 10 minutes of her arrival. Dave got to go with Doug and Linda to a Nebraska game, which unfortunately they lost, but still had a good time.
Lots of company, lots of fun!

AJ's Prayers
For a while now, AJ has been in the habit of saying prayers with me before bedtime. He used to want me to say mine first, then he would say a couple of things. More and more, he wants to say his prayer first and he is saying longer and longer prayers. He prays about things we have talked about or things that came up during the day. A little while ago, we took him with us to an event to raise money for Cancer. He listened to all these stories about individuals with Cancer and was especially affected by the stories of children with cancer. Ever since then, he has included prayers to find a cure for cancer (only he pronounces it cancered). He also now prays for his baby brother. I love that he thinks of what he wants to pray for all by himself. He is so sweet, he often prays for God to take care of himself too.
Dave didn't want AJ to know he had the video, so he wasn't very close to us and the sound is very low. Turn your volume up all the way and put your ear to the computer, and you might be able to hear one of AJ's prayers. The beginning is very quiet, so if you can't hear right away at all, give it a minute.

Ohio State Fair
We had a great day at the fair. AJ enjoyed all the rides and food, but he also enjoyed checking out the petting zoo and feeding several animals some carrots. I can't believe he also talked me into staying for the pig races. Seriously AJ, pig races??
AJ's favorite ride at the fair. He loved the way the cars spun fast around the corners. He would start getting excited in anticipation of each turn.
There were so many food giveaways at the fair this year. AJ was enjoying a M&M ice cream cone in one hand and dried cranberries in the next. He had to finish these before moving on to the mini boxes of cereal.
